Darwin is the tropical capital city of Australia’s Northern Territory and gateway to Asia. Boasting a relaxed and enviable outdoor lifestyle, Darwin is both modern and sophisticated. Its colourful and vibrant history has contributed to its cultural diversity - more than 50 nationalities make up its 132,000 population, including the area’s traditional landowners, the Larrakia Aboriginal people.


Darwin is approximately three to four hours from most Australian capital cities, two hours from Denpasar and four hours from Singapore and Ho Chi Minh City. Domestic services are provided by Qantas, Jetstar, Virgin Blue, AirNorth, and Tiger Airways. International routes are serviced by Jetstar, Malaysian Airlines, Philippines Air, Air Asia, AirNorth and Silk Air.

Airport to Darwin City

The airport is only 15 minutes drive from the city centre. Darwin Airport Shuttle, a 24-hour scheduled service for all domestic and international flights, is a convenient and reliable transport to and from the airport. Private hire vehicles and chartered coach buses are also available.

Getting Around

Darwin is a compact city with dining and entertainment destinations often a short walking distance from hotels. Chartered coach services can provide transfers to offsite venues and sightseeing trips within Darwin and surrounds


The Top End has a tropical climate. Darwin has an average temperature of 32 degrees Celsius, with varying humidity. The tropical summer, from December to March, brings summer rains and picturesque storms and sunsets for which the Northern Territory is renowned. The dry season, from May to October, has warm, sunny days and cool nights.

Conference Venue

Our conference will be held at Doubletree Hilton Darwin Esplanade & Darwin Entertainment Centre complex overlooking the Darwin Harbour and the Esplanade Parkland.

Business Centre

Business Centre Services can be provided by the Doubletree Hilton Darwin Esplanade. Services include faxing, photocopying, secretarial services and the sale of selected stationary items. Charges apply for goods and services.

Family Friendly Conference

The AMSA2017 Conference welcomes participants with young children, and enables them to participate in the conference with flexible offers of childcare during the conference. Please contact the Conference Organisers on email or phone 61-8-89812010 to discuss your requirements. 

Car Parking

Undercover parking is available for $ 9 per day, with access via both Mitchell St and Esplanade. Hotel guests have complimentary parking and will receive a parking token to exit the carpark from reception.

Bike Hire available

Spinways Northern Territory Bike hire has a station in front of the Conference Venue The DoubleTree Hilton Esplanade. 

Mobile phones and pagers

As a courtesy to other delegates, please ensure all mobile telephones and pagers are turned off or in ‘silent’ mode during all sessions and social functions.

Device Chargebar

Agentur, the Conference Coordinator provides a Chargebar that will be available at the registration desk, people can recharge their smartphone or tablet battery for free. The charging station has multiple cables.

Dress Code

Dress throughout the Conference is neat casual. The dress code for each function will be indicated within the function description.

Name badges

Name badges will be issued during Conference registration. For security purposes the Conference name badge must be worn at all times during the Conference.

Registration fees do not include personal travel or health insurance of any kind. It is strongly recommended that when registering for the Conference and booking travel that delegates make arrangements for appropriate insurance cover.
